Instability Concerns Fail to Dampen Enthusiasm For New U-235 Golf Ball
Port Sable, FL (4/20/2026) – The introduction of the GSTPA Tour’s new U-235 golf ball this week has sparked intense debate throughout the golf community, with supporters praising the ball’s unprecedented distance capabilities while critics warn that the technology could produce “catastrophic outcomes.”
Developed by the GSTPA Labs Advanced Materials Division, the ball utilizes an enriched uranium-235 core designed to undergo controlled nuclear fission at impact, releasing significant amounts of energy, radiation, and free neutrons during compression.
Early field testing reportedly resulted in:

Despite this, enthusiasm remains high.
“Distance changes everything,” said GSTPA long-drive specialist Darryl Edwards while receiving treatment inside a temporary radiation containment unit. “You can’t teach that.”
Edwards isn't the only one excited about the new golf balls.
Tour veteran Rick Halpert continued to praise the U-235s even after suffering third-degree burns the first time he tried them. Halpert estimated the radioactive balls added “at least 120 yards to his drives,” though none of his longest shots were found anywhere near the golf course.
Not everyone within the golf community is pleased with the latest development, however. Concerns about the safety of the technology emerged almost immediately.
“This is absolutely reckless,” said environmental advocate Paul Mendez. “We’re talking about enriched radioactive materials traveling at hypersonic speeds near beverage carts, retirees, and public roadways. This has got to be stopped.”
Mendez later acknowledged he had ordered two dozen balls “strictly for evaluation purposes.”
One concern among players is whether modern titanium and polymer-based club materials were designed to withstand repeated low-yield nuclear reactions.
“It’s probably fine for irons,” noted Edwards while pointing to a partially melted driver head. “But you may go through a lot of hybrid clubs. Might have to go back to persimmon.”
The balls currently retail for $300 a dozen and are available through GSTPA Labs and select pro shops with adequate shielding.
